It’s all in the family

Absolutely. In Tanzania the animals from your children’s picture books come to life before their eyes, and you can relax in the knowledge that Tanzania is a safe, family-friendly destination. Our guides are fond of children and enjoy telling them exciting stories about nature, the Big Five and lion cubs – just like in the Lion King.

When we put your trip together, we plan it for your children AND for you, so that everyone gets the most out of it. Depending on your situation that can mean shorter safari days with more time at the pool, child seats in the car, extra snacks and Wi-Fi. We also pick accommodation with special facilities for the little ones, such as pools, activities or even nannies.

Tanzanian national parks have no minimum age, and for children under 15 you even pay a reduced entry fee. To give you some idea, though: most families who book a family-friendly safari with us travel with children aged six or older. If you feel your child is still a bit young for a long safari, a few days on safari followed by Zanzibar might be the best choice. Or you simply wait another one, two or three years – Tanzania isn’t going anywhere.

When planning a family holiday in Tanzania with children, it is wise to ask your doctor or health office about recommended vaccinations and medication. Taking out extra Flying Doctors insurance is also advisable. Should anything happen (touch wood it won’t), a helicopter can fly you to the nearest hospital right away.

Yes, babies are more than welcome! You travel with us in your own private 4×4 landcruiser, which gives you flexibility and privacy. Your little one can sleep in a baby seat (ask your travel consultant to book one!) while you take in the views. Many of our safari jeeps also have a fridge for milk and the like, and if you tell us about your children’s special dietary needs in advance, we can cater for those too. Need a cot in the lodges? Just say so… we will sort it out.

Certainly: a car seat can be hired simply by asking your travel consultant. We want you and your children to travel in comfort, so baby and booster seats are available to rent for the safari cars. For your children’s safety and comfort on safari, please book your baby seat before you arrive (price on request).

Lodges generally love having children, but the services for little ones vary a lot – some only have a few. Some lodges offer supervised playgrounds, animation teams or nanny services, while others simply have a swimming pool and a children’s menu. Some of these services are free, others cost extra. Your consultant will gladly explain the options and help you choose what suits you best!
