An 11-day Tanzania safari at a relaxed, comfortable pace [Favourite for 50+]

Lodges, logistics, activities and adventures: we arrange all of it, so you can simply set off on the Tanzania holiday you have been dreaming of for years.

Your trip begins in Arusha, where you can spend a laid-back day by the pool or wander through the lively city. After that it is time to head out: from your own comfortable private 4×4 you take in Tarangire National Park, the realm of the elephants, on a thrilling game drive. Fancy stretching your legs for a few minutes? That is fine. It is your safari, so you set the pace.

Gibb’s Farm shows you how coffee is grown, picked and roasted, and naturally you get to drink a cup too, along with a lunch of local specialities. Refreshed, you continue to the well-known Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where breathtaking scenery meets the greatest density of wildlife in Africa. The highlights keep coming as you travel on to the Serengeti. Look out for the Big Five and watch, during the Great Wildebeest Migration, as millions of wildebeest and zebras thunder across the seemingly endless plains.

Between these memorable moments you unwind at comfortable lodges offering calm, quiet and plenty of facilities. During a jewellery making workshop at Shanga you can give your creativity free rein and make a few souvenirs for the people at home (or for yourself). Honestly, though, it is the memories you will treasure most.

Accommodations:

Day 2

A wonderful relaxing day in Arusha

Today is a lovely day of rest, and how you fill it is up to you. You could stay at the lodge all day, enjoying the excellent service, sipping cool drinks, lazing by the pool and taking in the African atmosphere around you. Alternatively, discover Arusha through a few interesting activities - take a city tour, for instance, cycle through the outskirts on a mountain bike, or pick up your first souvenirs at a lively Maasai market…

Accommodations:

Day 3 - 4

Tarangire National Park

Tarangire National Park is famous for its large herds of elephants and its great number of giant baobab trees. These trees can reach an age of several hundred years, and in the dry season elephants actually use them as a water source, drawing water out of them with a special technique. On top of that, the Tarangire River is the only water source during the dry season, which is why you can see herds of up to 250 elephants here at that time of year, alongside many other animals!

Accommodations:

Day 5

Gibb's Farm walk & lunch

On the slopes of the Ngorongoro Highlands, Gibb's Farm keeps the age-old rhythm of an African farm and coffee plantation alive. Stroll around this peaceful, tranquil sanctuary and see vegetables being picked, coffee being roasted, cows being milked and pigs being fed. The farm's chefs draw inspiration from the vegetable gardens, fruit trees and herbs, and in turn they delight visitors with a delicious lunch. A small slice of paradise!

Accommodations:

Day 6

Ngorongoro Conservation Area (incl. Crater)

The renowned Ngorongoro Crater ranks among Africa's seven natural wonders. It came into being two million years ago, when a huge volcano erupted. The rich volcanic soil gave rise to a unique ecosystem that now supports the highest density of animals anywhere in Africa! Down in the crater you are surrounded by thousands of animals, including lions, zebras, buffalos and black rhinos, and the scenery is so spectacular that you won’t know where to look first!

Accommodations:

Day 7

Flight to Serengeti (included) and the adventure continues!

A flight takes you into the Serengeti, where your guide is ready and waiting. Here your safari begins, in an ecosystem known for its vast plains, the Great Migration and one of the greatest concentrations of lions and cheetahs in Africa.

Accommodations:

Day 8 - 9

Serengeti National Park (central west/east)

Serengeti National Park has a reputation as the place for a safari, largely thanks to the Great Migration that moves through the park. The huge, charging herds are a remarkable sight, and so is the large population of predators: more than four thousand lions, more than 200 cheetahs, a thousand leopards, 3500 hyenas and hundreds of wild dogs! Add to that many other beautiful animals, which your guide will gladly look for with you. Are you ready?

Accommodations:

Day 10

Flight to Arusha (included in the price)

A scenic flight brings you to Arusha, the lively gateway city to Tanzania's northern safari circuit, which lies at the foot of the towering Mount Meru.

Day 11

Outbound international flight home from Kilimanjaro International Airport

Your final day! Depending on when your flight leaves, you can enjoy the lodge a little longer before transferring to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your journey home. Not quite ready to leave? You can also extend your holiday by a few days on one of Tanzania's paradise islands, such as Zanzibar, Pemba or Mafia!
