Beach and safari holiday? Tanzania has it all

Whether it is the superb safaris or the stunningly beautiful beaches that draw you, Tanzania has plenty to give. Hard to believe, but in Tanzania you can go on a genuine safari, climb Mount Kilimanjaro, meet the welcoming local people, see the Big Five, soak up the sun (and perhaps the snow, if you climb Kilimanjaro), unwind on a beach on Pemba island, go snorkelling or swim out to the dolphins off Zanzibar. All of that fits into a few weeks in Tanzania. We did say it: Tanzania is one of the finest beach and safari holiday countries in the world!

8 reasons to come to Tanzania for the perfect beach and safari holiday.

  1. Seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites. There are seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Tanzania: the famous Mount Kilimanjaro, plus the safari areas Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Selous Game Reserve and Serengeti National Park, home of the Great Wildebeest Migration. A further 3 cultural places hold UNESCO World Heritage status: Stone Town in Zanzibar, the Kondoa Rock-Art Sites and the
Ruins of Kilwa Kisiwani and of Songo Mnara. That is already 7 good reasons to come to Tanzania for a beach and safari holiday!
  2. Kilimanjaro. Tanzania is also where you find Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa and the highest freestanding mountain anywhere in the world. You can climb Mount Kilimanjaro… or simply admire it from afar. From summit to base, the mountain is a beautiful sight.
  3. Africa's best safari country. Tanzania has been voted the best safari country in Africa. That comes as no surprise: here you can still go on an authentic safari, without tarmac roads, with animals roaming free and no fences in sight. Your chances of spotting the Big 5 on a beach and safari holiday in Tanzania are also very good.
  4. Spot the Big 5. Few countries on earth are better than Tanzania for seeing the Big Five, and your odds of finding all of them are highest in the Ngorongoro Crater. Tanzania has the greatest concentration and variety of animals in Africa, which makes it a wonderful destination for anyone who loves wildlife.
  5. Diving in the Zanzibar archipelago. Some of the finest diving in Africa is found around the islands of Zanzibar, Pemba and Maffia. This is especially true around Pemba Island, where azure waters, untouched coral and plentiful marine life add up to excellent diving conditions.
  6. The paradise beaches of Zanzibar. The picture-perfect beaches of Zanzibar are breathtaking. Few paradises on earth are as easy to reach as the Zanzibar archipelago, and it is often regarded as the perfect honeymoon destination.
  7. A paradise for hikers. Tanzania is a hiker’s dream. You can walk in the various national parks beside lakes, through coffee plantations and forest, hike to a lovely waterfall and bathe in its clear water. If you fancy more of a challenge, climbing Mount Meru is a fine option, and less demanding than climbing Kilimanjaro. Just ask us for details!
  8. Get to know the local people. You have most likely heard of the Maasai. Spending time with the Maasai is a one-of-a-kind cultural experience. Their villages lie in the savannahs of the Great Rift Valley, and the Maasai have kept the same way of life for centuries, without electricity or running water. They are not the only people in Tanzania still living like this: the country has around 120 different tribes, each with its own language and way of life. You could, for instance, also call on the Iraqw in the Karatu region, a fascinating people who still grow their own food and herd their cattle. During a visit they will tell you about their history, customs and culture.
